"PARTHIAN"
Designed & Hooked by Jane Olson
Rugger's Roundtable Issue February 1986

Parthian is a Persian pattern and is so named for the Parthian era in Persia. Even though the empire was always warlike, and considered a grave enemy by its neighboring countries, its artisan's work in tiles, stuccos, ceramics, stone, and metal had very soft flowing lines. Except for the border lines, the designs themselves are very graceful.

Persian and Oriental rugs are very easy to hook. At first glance the overall pattern is overwhelming. Each design is repeated several times in the pattern. Whenever the design occurs again, it is hooked with the same colors, either solid or shaded as before.
